Meet Janet Gingold and her inspiration

Janet Gingold grew up in a big old house with five brothers, three sisters, and two very busy parents. She spent most of her childhood with her nose in a book, but somehow managed to have adventures--on the lake, at summer camp, as a birder and as a scientist. At the University of Michigan, she developed a fascination with the way life works that led her to the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed a pediatric residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, and then practiced general pediatrics in suburban Maryland for twenty years. As more and more families came to her office for help with school problems, she began to look for solutions through education instead of medication. Now she divides her time between teaching biology at Prince George's Community College and writing stories for growing people. She lives in Maryland with her husband. They have three grown children.
